Aspen Grove Meadow
Breaking suburban tradition with an exuberant pollinator meadow.
Albany’s Pine Bush reserve provided inspiration for this front lawn re-meadowing design. Located in a suburban enclave, this stylized meadow relies on the acidic, sandy site soils to support a variety of native plants, in addition to species that ensure seasonal interest is present throughout the year. Neat edges are maintained at the transition from meadow to lawn, bringing to mind Joan Nassauer’s seminal article on ‘Messy Ecosystems, Tidy Frames’ as a ‘cue-to-care’ for neighbors.
